Happy New Year and welcome to GH Medical! The start of 2021 also brings my new website: ghmedical.co.uk, please click the link and take a moment to have a look around. I would like to take this opportunity to announce its launch. It’s been quite a challenge over the last year to get everything up and running; with COVID-19 causing a number of hurdles.

To start with, let me tell you a little about myself. I qualified from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine in 2008 with an Intercalated BSc. I undertook my Foundation years in Kent and subsequently became an Anatomy Demonstrator for King’s College London before embarking on surgical training. I completed core training in Sussex and Surrey before progressing to higher surgical training across the South East in London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex. I completed a Masters degree during full time training for which I attained a Distinction. My Paediatric training was completed at Great Ormond Street Hospital and I undertook an Advanced Head & Neck Surgical Fellowship before my appointment as a Consultant at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust in 2019. I also work for East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust as part of a waiting list initiative. I am married with 2 children and live in the heart of Kent, making every area of the County very accessible.

My vision is to deliver the best care across a full range of ENT services across Kent. I currently practice at One Ashford Hospital, Kent and Spencer Wing Private Hospitals, Canterbury, Kent. My application to the Nuffield Hospital, Tunbridge Wells, Kent is still subject to approval but I should hear soon. This will allow me to provide a quality service across the County. I run clinics in Ashford on Tuesdays and in Canterbury on Wednesdays. Below is a full range of my services.

THYROID AND PARATHYROID SURGERY:

This includes thyroid cancer – for which I am a member of the East Kent Thyroid Multidisciplinary Team meeting and have a weekly specialist Thyroid and Parathyroid clinic. I am full member of British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid surgeons and participate in the UK registry of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons, a prerequisite for performing Thyroid surgery. Any surgeon undertaking this kind of surgery should be a member and participate in the National Database.

Thyroid and Parathyroid conditions I treat include:

  • parathyroid adenoma for high calcium
  • thyroid and parathyroid cancer
  • enlarged thyroids
  • thyroid lumps and cysts
  • patients with chronically high thyroid hormone levels such as Graves’ Disease.

HEAD & NECK DISORDERS – including throat, swallowing and voice disorders:

I perform both cancerous and non-cancerous head and neck surgery. I am a member of the East Kent Head & Neck multidisciplinary team meeting for cancer and complex cases. I run a weekly specialist Head & Neck clinic and am currently involved in setting up the Kent Head & Neck robotics programme. I have recently championed the purchase of a new laser for theatre and delicate throat work as well as outpatient equipment allowing more procedures to be done in clinic rather than requiring a general anaesthetic.

Head & Neck conditions I treat include:

  • tonsillitis
  • breathing problems
  • hoarseness
  • chronic cough
  • post nasal drip
  • increased saliva
  • sensation of something in the throat
  • throat tightness
  • sore throats
  • throat and voice box cancer
  • sleep apnoea
  • neck lumps

HEARING BALANCE AND EAR PROBLEMS:

As part of my waiting list work for East Sussex Healthcare Trust, I have a regular Paediatric and Otology clinic. I am comfortable in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing and balance disorders.

Hearing, balance and ear conditions I treat include:

• glue ear
• all forms of hearing loss
• tinnitus
• ear infections
• ear pain

  • rhinitis and rhinosinusitis (chronic, allergic and acute)
  • nasal blockage

  • nasal and facial pain
  • sneezing
  • itching
  • hayfever
  • loss of smell and taste

PAEDIATRIC EAR, NOSE AND THROAT CONDITIONS:

I completed my Paediatric training at Great Ormond Street Hospital and regularly see children in my General and Otology clinics. Having children of my own helps me put children at ease in what is a very stressful environment for them. I perform the high-risk Paediatric ENT procedures within the Trust, including the smallest children. I am competent at coblation intracapsular Tonsillectomies and more traditional Tonsillectomy techniques which have their own advantages, depending on the clinical scenario. I am happy to see and operate on all children.

Paediatric ENT conditions I treat include:

• glue ear
• tonsillitis
• enlarged adenoids
• blocked nose
• snoring
• sleep apnoea
• brachial clefts
• neck lumps
• ear sinuses
• ear infections
• ear pain
• ear discharge
• hearing loss
• noisy breathing
• tongue tie
• hoarseness
• swallowing problems

I am registered with a number of insurers and welcome self-paying clients. If you are not insured, I do not charge for additional procedures so there are no hidden costs; although the hospitals may charge you for any additional treatments.

Clinics run in Ashford on Tuesdays and in Canterbury on Wednesdays. Please get in touch with my Practice Manager Rebecca at info@ghmedical.co.uk or call 07450852096 for more information and to book an appointment.

I look forwards to hearing from you and welcoming you to my practice.
